It catches mid-sized suspended solids that slip through black media while maintaining enough flow to keep the filter running efficiently. In ponds where a single media type is used rather than a full multi-layer setup, green strikes the best balance between mechanical filtration and water flow. Sold per square foot, it cuts to any shape your filter requires. Where to Use It In a multi-stage filter, green media runs second — after the black pre-filter has pulled out leaves and large debris. It continues removing smaller particles, building up a biofilm layer of beneficial bacteria on its surface as the season progresses. As a standalone media in simpler filter designs, it handles both mechanical straining and biological processing without restricting flow to the point of starving the pump. It's a practical choice for ponds where you want solid filtration without the complexity of a four-layer system. Specification Value Density Coarse-medium / semi-open Filtration Stage Second stage, or standalone in simpler systems Pore Size Finer than black, coarser than blue and grey Standard Sheet Size 39\" x 48\" x 1.5\" thick (99 cm x 122 cm x 3.8 cm) Sold Per square foot Lifespan 2 to 3 years with regular rinsing Maintenance Rinse with pond water, never tap water. Green media handles a moderate debris load and typically needs rinsing every 7 to 10 days during peak season. When rinsing causes the foam to stay compressed rather than springing back to shape, it's time for replacement. Ideal for the second stage of multi-layer pond filters, smaller pond systems using a single media layer, and water gardens where consistent flow is as important as solids removal.","image_url":"https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1076/9324/4755/files/matala-filter-media-default-title-matala-green-sq-ft-43287410311487.webp?v=1790197232","href":"/product/matala-green-sqft.html","buy_url":"https://xyjpsn-3p.myshopify.com/products/matala-green-sqft","buy_url_source":"shops.shop_domain + product.handle","seller_name":"xyjpsn-3p.myshopify.com","seller_url":"https://xyjpsn-3p.myshopify.com/","return_policy_url":"https://xyjpsn-3p.myshopify.com/policies/refund-policy","media":[{"url":"https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1076/9324/4755/files/matala-filter-media-default-title-matala-green-sq-ft-43287410311487.webp?v=1790197232","alt":null,"position":0}],"related":[{"handle":"aquascape-low-density-rigid-filter-mat","title":"Aquascape Low Density Rigid Filter Mat","category":"Filter Media","price":"$47.59","image_url":"https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1076/9324/4755/files/aquascape-filter-media-default-title-aquascape-low-density-rigid-filter-mat-43287386947903.webp?v=1790198054","sku":"AQ-80003","href":"/product/aquascape-low-density-rigid-filter-mat.html"},{"handle":"aquascape-rapid-clear-fine-filter-pads","title":"Aquascape Rapid Clear Fine Filter Pads","category":"Filter Media","price":"$21.27","image_url":"https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1076/9324/4755/files/aquascape-filter-media-default-title-aquascape-rapid-clear-fine-filter-pads-43287388422463.webp?v=1790197552","sku":"AQ-80001","href":"/product/aquascape-rapid-clear-fine-filter-pads.html"},{"handle":"atlantic-water-gardens-matala-filter-kit-coarsemediumfine-3","title":"Atlantic Water Gardens Matala Filter Kit - Coarse/medium/fine","category":"Filter Media","price":"$170.79","image_url":"https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1076/9324/4755/files/atlantic-water-gardens-filter-media-default-title-atlantic-water-gardens-matala-filter-kit-coarse-medium-fine-43287406313791.webp?v=1790197042","sku":"AT-MA2600","href":"/product/atlantic-water-gardens-matala-filter-kit-coarsemediumfine-3.html"},{"handle":"aquascape-high-density-rigid-filter-mat","title":"Aquascape High Density Rigid Filter Mat","category":"Filter Media","price":"$53.75","image_url":"https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1076/9324/4755/files/aquascape-filter-media-default-title-aquascape-high-density-rigid-filter-mat-43287386161471.webp?v=1790197324","sku":"AQ-80005","href":"/product/aquascape-high-density-rigid-filter-mat.html"}]}}
