Description (from PDP, plain text)
Antique Grimwade The Improved Pie Funnel Ceramic Pie Vent c.1920 An antique ceramic pie funnel by Grimwade, known as “The Improved Pie Funnel”, dating from the early 20th century. Made in cream glazed ceramic, the funnel has a four-footed base and tall central chimney designed to allow steam to escape through the pastry during baking. Around the body is the original black printed advertising and instructional text headed “THE IMPROVED”, explaining how the funnel carries away steam and helps produce a light, flaky pie crust. These printed Grimwade examples are much more decorative and collectable than the plain utilitarian pie funnels more commonly encountered and make excellent pieces of antique kitchenalia. ConditionGood antique condition with age-related wear. There is extensive fine crazing to the glaze, with some staining and discolouration associated with the crazing, particularly around the upper chimney. There are small areas of wear and discolouration around the underside edges/feet. The black printed lettering remains strong and clearly legible. Please see photographs for full condition. DimensionsH: 8 cm × D: 6 cm EraEarly 20th century, c.1910–1930.
