Description (from PDP, plain text)
Castrol Motor Oil Enamel Advertising Sign Wakefield Oil c1920An original early 20th century enamel advertising sign for Castrol Motor Oil, produced for garage and workshop display. The sign features the classic Castrol colourway with bold black lettering on a white panel set within a yellow roundel on a red ground, advertising “Castrol Motor Oil.” This branding is associated with the British lubricants firm Wakefield Oil Company, whose Castrol products became synonymous with early motoring. The sign shows pronounced industrial wear, including enamel loss, resulting in a strikingly honest survivor with strong visual impact. Despite the losses, the core graphic remains immediately recognisable, making this a highly decorative and authentic piece of early motoring advertising.ConditionOriginal unrestored condition. Surface wear with enamel loss, small holes and surface pitting from long-term outdoor or workshop use. The remaining enamel is stable and the sign displays well. All wear is consistent with age and use and forms a key part of its character.DimensionsH: 40 cm x L: 59 cm x W: 4cm (flange)EraCirca 1915–1930, early 20th century
